A material reimagining from indoors to outdoors

The first chapter in our Material Studies series begins with a move outdoors. The introduction of metal and color to the Rugosa collection continues an exploration of a material’s influence on design and space. Originally released in 2020, this suite of furniture was crafted in sustainably harvested Western Sugar Pine. While this collection’s material choice honors and evolves the spirit of the living room, these new pieces embrace the exterior elements.

The elegant, pared down silhouettes of Rugosa’s designs have been translated in powder-coated aluminum, bronzed glass and GreenGuard certified textiles. Whether sited indoors or outside, these pieces have been designed to endure a variety of climates including the seaside and desert.

Material Studies — Rugosa is offered in a vibrant palette, including Oxblood, Lapis and Lime White, that both celebrates and contrasts the textures and hues of the landscape. The collection includes an armchair, coffee table, side table, and dining table.

An exploration of the impact of materiality on design and space, the Material Studies Series deepens our interest in the cultural history of material use. In reinterpreting current collections from the studio through material selection, we investigate the relationship between materiality and design in adaptable and empowering ways.
